There are several places...@Kinna, I agree with you. There are several places in this novel, especially when he was showing his naivety that got my heart boiling. I was overworked at those places. But I love the subplot about materialism and media, the commentary on the current American culture of affluence and disintegration of the family. The fact that money rules everything and so people could do whatever they want to get it. Those kind of things echoes my thoughts.ImageNationshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06021414643103601330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29803016.post-8191694935018416592011-12-20T11:08:41.487+00:002011-12-20T11:08:41.487+00:00@Amy, There is more to this than teen angst, thoug...@Amy, There is more to this than teen angst, though the comparison with The Catcher in the Rye cannot be overlooked. What worked for me, besides the misunderstood teen, was the way DBC Pierre humoured the media and the current trend of entrepreneurs and Reality Shows. He showed how we have transformed everything into a money-making venture and have actually sold ourselves. Besides, the current rate at which people who have been convicted of a crime of which they knew nothing is embarrassing. It shows the mentality of 'prosecute an individual at all cost' which is not good. Thus, I guess you don't have to totally suspend belief, but then that'll also come in handy as at the very last point, the tipping point, what occurred is somewhat 'miraculous?'ImageNationshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06021414643103601330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29803016.post-42196741017417023802011-12-17T15:14:15.767+00:002011-12-17T15:14:15.767+00:00Funny, but I really can't stand certain teenag...Funny, but I really can't stand certain teenage angst so I've stayed well clear of Catcher since my first attempt some years back!Kinnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10742288622028307018noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29803016.post-38594636992482096142011-12-15T01:06:26.460+00:002011-12-15T01:06:26.460+00:00Yeahh... this doesn't sound like a book I'...Yeahh... this doesn't sound like a book I'd like, especially as I'm not a fan of The Catcher and the Rye. Sounds kinda far fetched and like you would have to suspend disbelief really - was it?Amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18102250492155489672noreply@blogger.com
